Usually when traveling alone or even in a group try and be more flexible that means agreeing to an alternate date if the rates are going to be lower. Shifting the departure to a week before or after can make a lot of difference. Also try and look around and compare cheap travel packages that other travel agencies are providing. Some agencies specialize on the destinations that you are looking to visit. This makes it cheaper for you as evidently these agencies will ensure that you get the best deals when you book with them. Although larger agencies will have more options but invariably it is the smaller agencies which concentrates and specializes in a few destinations and enjoys great supplier relations and therefore is able to provide better deals.

A solar charger for your mobiles. These things are small, easy to pack and can be a life saver when you have drained your cell phone batteries and need to make an important call.

A Swiss army knife. These are also a life saver and come in several combinations but of course you wouldn’t carry this on a flight. One of my personal favorites that I with me when I am hiking or camping is the one that comes with a small knife, a screw driver and a bottle opener.
